That most of her still lifes include fruits
and or vegetables, she explains as being inherent in her New Orleans
roots. She puts it, "so much of life in New Orleans revolves around
food; eating it, discussing it, and preparing it. I pick fruits and
vegetables that excite me in a visual way".

Darlene is a member of The Pastel Society of
America. Her work has been selected for inclusion in the Art in
Embassies Program sponsored by the U.S. State Department.

She was a featured artist in "Pastel Artist
International", May/June/July, 2000 and in the article "Infusing the
Still Life Movement and Entergy" in the "Pastel Journal",

She has studied pastel at the John McCrady
Art School in New Orleans, watercolor and drawing at Tulane University
and color and design at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art.

Darlene, also does independent studies with
national and international pastelists and oil colorists.
Darlene was the recipient of a five-week
study residency from the Association des Amis de la Grande Vigne,
Atelier d"Artiste, Manor de Ferron, Dinan, France.
She is also an in demand speaker for many
art associations.
